Sit back, while you read the modern-day tale of two women, four children, and one dream….

The Story of Groovy on Grand

Once upon a time, in a small village called Croton-on-Hudson, there were two women, who lived with their families. Now, these women did not always reside in that village of Croton-on-Hudson, no they both came from point’s south- one near and one far.

Lisa, with flaming red hair, hailed from the point south that was near- also known as Brooklyn. She was well-known in Brooklyn for three reasons: one- for the aforementioned hair, which was not only red, but also quite long, full of coils, and glowing richly, with a fiery sheen like a setting sun on a warm night.

The second reason for her fame was her style of dress, Lisa had a sharp sense of the latest thing in fashion, and the third and final root of her notoriety was that Lisa just loved to shop. “There’s only one shopping day left till tomorrow, “ she was often heard to say, while jollily bustling around the city and town with her hands full of shopping bags, and her wallet full of credit card receipts.

The second gal, Andrea, was from the point south that was far- the home of delicious soft pretzels and a large, cracked bell- she was from the one and only Olde Philadelphia. Andrea’s hair, while not red, coily or long, was also quite notorious, as hers was high-lighted and low-lighted and striped blonde and brown, and most often swept up in a carefree pile on top of her head, then secured with an assortment of whatever was close by, so she was often seen with a pencil, chopstick or- even once- a forsythia branch sticking out of her head. She, too, had a hip sense of fashion, one that was stylish, combined with an artsy, downtown look. And, if rumor’s are accurate- was also seen all over New York City running around with shopping bags galore, during the very same exact years that Lisa was witnessed doing the same, and once they met, they then learned- that the two women- though not knowing eachother- had coincidentally criss-crossed and zig-zagged and wove paths up, down and around each other, for years, all over the city with arms full of assorted shopping bags.

So, now that you know they both loved to shop and they both loved fashion, It is amazing and true that- for different reasons- they both moved north to Westchester County, and both found themselves in a new and beloved hometown called Croton-on-Hudson, New York.

Now while loving living in Northern Westchester, especially for it’s green landscapes and very laid-back atmosphere, they felt at a complete loss when it came to their favorite activity- you know it… shopping! What they found—up in Westchester—was they had to get into their cars, plan trips, and travel far and wide to fill their purchasing needs. “Why can’t there be a good shop real close by?” inquired Andrea. “I wish it wasn’t such a drive to a decent store,” spoke Lisa. They both were pondering this all over their new town, when—magically it almost seemed- they overheard each other saying these exact same things to other mothers one day, while at the neighborhood playground.

They stopped, they turned their heads, they met each other’s eyes, and then they jumped up, each yelling, “Yippee, yahoo! Yes, I love to shop too!”
Oh yes, as you can imagine, it was a match made in heaven. From that point on, when they were together- they were shopping. And when they weren’t together, they were calling each other, saying “Can you pick me up this? Can you pick me up that?” “There are lime green skirts here. There are great bargains there.” And so on and so forth.

However—as much fun as they had while shopping together, they always thought it quite unfortunate that they had to travel so far to have this bopping-shopping fun… Well, one day they decided enough is enough, gas prices are sky-rocketing, and we’re putting way too much mileage on our cars (which is bad for the environment), so- they said, “There’s got to be others like us! There’s got to be loads of Northern Westchester-ites tired of driving an hour round trip just for a new pair of jeans for their kids! There should be a shop in our town! Let’s open a shop in Croton and fill it with all the great things we like to shop for! And let’s make some stuff, too—so we have some real unique things that are worth the drive for (in the case there are Southern Westchester-ites who do like to drive) and let’s make the stuff really cool, and worth surfing and ordering online for (in the case of the rest of the world.)
So there were the two women, there was their decision and a few months later… Lisa and Andrea opened their store- in the little village of Croton-on-Hudson, on Grand Street. And they filled their shelves and racks with groovy, unique, cool, fun and hip merchandise for all the groovy, unique cool, fun, and hip kids and people they knew. And the townsfolk came, and the townsfolk shopped and they liked it.... And Lisa and Andrea now fill their days shopping, searching, buying, and making so all their customers can always find something groovy to buy on Grand Street.
Oh, and by the way, if you walk in the shop any day of the week, one of the two will jump up excitedly from behind the register and yell, “Yippee, yahoo! You’ve come to shop! Thank you!”

The End
And they shopped and bopped happily ever after…
